Day 1 - Astoria to Fort Stevens Park and back
What an awesome day. After training for 8 months, We finally got to get going on the trip. After a 2 hour shuttle ride from Portland to Astoria, we were able to get on our bikes and start pedaling. We had of to a bit of a rocky start with one rider going down thanks to railroad tracks and a wrong turn to the first bridge across the Columbia River, not the second bridge! Hopefully our missteps are behind us.
Today was a bit of a shorter ride. 30 Miles and 700ft of climbing. The highlight, of course, was the dipping of the wheel in the Pacific Ocean at Fort Stevens Park.
A quick 15 miles back to Astoria for a nice local brew and light dinner, followed by a great sunset.
It was great to meet our 5 guides and other 20 riders. Looking forward to riding with everyone and getting to know everyone better

Woo Hoo. Have a great Day 2. Stay straight. No left turns. Pedal Fast 🌞
ReplyDeleteSo you really had to go west before heading east?
ReplyDeleteYup. They used Astoria as a staging ground to set up our bikes. 30 miles to shake out any issues. No more westerly rides!
