Day 6 Portland to Portland - Hermiston to Walla Walla

Today was the day to get out of Oregon and into Washington State.  70 miles and 3000 feet of climbing to go.

So far, the worst weather has been the intense heat.  The light drizzle just before starting today was a nice change.  Today was a lot more of the same.  Huge fields of grain as far as you can see in either direction

After a few early climbs, the day was primarily rolling hills into Walla Walla.

Another good day on the bike as we churned out the miles in a 4 person pace line and we rolled into town just after 1pm.  That made for a leisurely afternoon with some good recovery time.  Walla Walla is a big wine area and 905 of the hops used in American beer is grown in the valley surrounding it.  Being a beer guy, I skipped the wine tasting and found the local brewery(very good).  We always get a few good reactions when we tell people we are cycling to Portland.  Out here they think, that is not so far away, until we add "Maine" to the discussion.  Today our "uber" driver gave us four beers from Georgetown Brewing in Seattle to take on our journey.  Apparently the brewery selections tail off until Montana...

Bright and early tomorrow, we head to Idaho.  The first state on this trip that I have never been to before.
