Day 23 Portland to Portland - Oacoma to Mitchell SD
I am not sure you would ever find a group of people happier than we were to get up early for our 76 mile bike ride. We all knew that today would be pretty easy. Very little climbing. Lunch came early and we were at the hotel in Mitchell shortly after 1pm. That made for a great afternoon of "catching up". and a dip in the hot tub as well!
Not a lot to say about today's ride. We are in farm country, for sure. As you can see from the Ride with GPS chart above, we are still straight lining across South Dakota! The time change resulted in us leaving before sunrise today. That made for some picture opportunities.
The highlight for today was passing over the halfway mark of the trip. In days - 23 and in miles. Woo Hoo. October will be here before we know it. The weather is going to break this evening and tomorrow we will be riding in the 60s. A nice break from the triple digit temps we have had.
I will add few pictures from tonight's dinner stop. My beer, of course, and pictures of The Corn Palace. Mitchell's most famous landmark.

And the Corn palace

Half way there and cooler weather! You will be in Maine before you know it!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the mid-mark of your journey! Keep on rolling! Caroline and I are racing a train tomorrow. Only 15 miles with a 1k+ climb at a whopping 1% incline! The train makes it in 1:11:42, so a 13 mph pace on gravel is the plan!
ReplyDeleteCongrats again on your accomplishment Rick. Love the pics—especially Rt 50. That acorn Palace is something else!
