Day 27 Portland to Portland - Austin to La Crosse, WI
Midway through the morning, our group of three came upon an Amish buggy with three children on their way to school. Cars behind the buggy attempted to pass as we were in the oncoming lane. One car made it by and cut in front of the buggy. This and the blinking white lights on our bikes spooked the horse and he reared up, and then turned off the road, down a ditch and flipped the buggy, throwing the children off into the field. Fortunately, no person or animal was hurt. We quickly got off our bikes and headed into the field to help unbuckle the horse and right the buggy.
After lunch, Minnesota redeemed itself, as we spent 40 miles on the Root River bike trail. It was so nice to have a smooth trail and no cars for awhile!
We rolled into Wisconsin, crossing the Mississippi River and into the town of La Crosse. Finishing the 11th 100 mile or more ride so far on this trip. Only 5 more long rides to go.
The brewery of the day was 608 Brewing. Nice place with good beer. We met the brewer and enjoyed a Marzen brewed for the upcoming Oktoberfest celebration. 608 Brewing Schlatz.
On to Spring Green Wi tomorrow. 1 day closer to the rest day in Madison.

Don’t forget Wisconsin has great ice cream too! I think it’s the agriculture school/department in Madison that sells home churned flavors.
