Day 28 Portland to Portland - La Crosse to Spring Green, WI
Our hotel in La Crosse was really nice. Too bad we had to leave bright and early today. But then again, we are getting close to the coveted rest day in Madison. Another century + day was ahead of us. This one with the most climbing we have had in the last 5 days.
The ride today took us up, down and through the Amish region of Wisconsin. Beautiful country roads with almost no traffic. We did get to race an Amish Uber down the road. 6 men in a horse and buggy getting dropped off at work. The day started in town and we encountered a bit of fog as we left the valley and started the climbs.
The weather has warmed up a bit, and a few of the climbs at double digit grades made us all sweat. Including the 14% er to end the day.
Our final destination today was Spring Green, WI. A mere 54 miles from Madison - a rest day and ice cream at the Memorial Union (Babcocks of course). Spring Green is best known as the location of Frank Lloyd Wright's Wisconsin home - Taliesin. We did take a spin to see it, not too impressed.
We are in a fairly remote setting n our hotel, so no brewery visit today. We had to pop the top on the last Angry Hog Radler crowler.
Madison here we come. Laundry and a massage are on the agenda for tomorrow afternoon for sure.

Today sounded like a nice cozy day. Hope you enjoyed everything as you inch towards home.

No brewery? What about that signage for PBR and Old Style!
ReplyDeleteRight! the only brewery in Spring Green closed. I think wine is more popular in that town
DeleteGetting closer to the finish line…hang in there!
